Viviana Laguzzi

Dancer · Designer · Founder of Mimi Pinzón
A lifetime devoted to tango — first as a dancer on the world's most prestigious stages, today as the designer behind every dress that reimagines the sensuality of Buenos Aires.
Classical training
and a calling for tango
Viviana Laguzzi is classically trained and built her artistic career at the Colón Theatre of Buenos Aires. She performed with several Modern Dance and Jazz companies, including Julio Bocca's Company.
In 1989, alongside Juan Corvalán, she began her professional career as a tango dancer. As lead couple of Mariano Mores's Company «El Tango», they toured throughout Latin America and Europe, and appeared as guest dancers on Argentina's leading TV shows until 1996.
International
career
They were hired by Quincy Jones to represent Argentina at the Concert of the Americas (Miami, 1994). That same year they were chosen as choreographers and dancers for the TV special Siglo XX Cambalache. In 1998 they were commissioned as choreographers for the Salzburg Ballet Company (Austria) to stage the ballet Un Tango de Amor.
They were the leading couple of Tango Pasión from its creation in 1992 until 2006, choreographing every one of their solo performances. They toured the world with the Sexteto Mayor Orchestra. In 2001 they were cast as the protagonist couple alongside José Libertella for the tango documentary Con el Tango en el Corazón.
From the stage
to the atelier
Throughout her entire artistic career, Viviana created and designed her own wardrobe for every performance. This practice — born of the need for garments that combined sensuality, elegance and complete freedom of movement — led her to found in 2000 her own fashion house, named after the famous tango «Mimi Pinzón».
Today Mimi Pinzón is synonymous with sensuality, passion and Buenos Aires elegance, present in over 40 countries. In 2006 Viviana also took over Madreselva Tango Shoes, which has become one of the most exclusive professional tango footwear brands in the world.
International
acclaim
«While mostly an ensemble evening, for sheer heat, Viviana Laguzzi and Juan Corvalán — she of elegance on the hoof, he of aristocratic good looks — tore up the floor in La Cumparsita replete with a power struggle that saw Corvalán wipe the stage with his partner, ending in a spectacular frieze of yearning.
— Los Angeles Times
«I admire them all hugely, but confess that I have fallen especially under the spell of Viviana Laguzzi, and her ability to slice the air and the dance with a skill that matches her perfect legs. As variously loathsome events clog our world, here's an escape-tunnel dug for us by these vastly welcome visitors.
